Last week, after a business meeting in Sleaford, I took the opportunity for another visit to the National Centre for Craft and Design (NCCD). I was delighted to see a truly brilliant exhibition of work by Michael Brennand-Wood. Ideas based on fusions of western and Islamic cultural influences, as well notions of memory, collecting and classification made for inspirational work. Integrated panels and framed one-off pieces celebrated craft and making skills and were joyously fused into dramatic art. There was also an interesting juxtaposition of representational and abstract art, along with changes of mood and colour, all within a beautifully curated show within the NCCD’s main gallery space.

Quite simply, the show has an enormous amount of visual interest in the work, where the viewer can almost how see interesting decisions have been made regarding choices of materials and colour combinations. A fascinating show, well worth returning to for a second look.

Michael Brennan-Wood: Seeds of Memory continues until 29 November. Go and see it!
