Sinclair at the Kunsthuis Summer Exhibition

Sinclair at the Kunsthuis Summer Exhibition

This Friday, 16 June, a print from my new ‘Landfall’ series takes its place alongside 99 other printmakers, painters and sculptors for the inaugural Kunsthuis Gallery Summer Exhibition. Artists from 11 Countries, including Britain, the Netherlands, Iran, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Italy, Belgium and the United States will be taking part.

The exhibition celebrates artists who demonstrate a fresh approach to painting, sculpture, jewellery, printmaking, ceramics, drawing, photography and textiles with a dynamic use of concepts, techniques and imagery.

“Our Royal Academy-inspired summer exhibition will represent what’s happening in the art world right now with the artists submitting one artwork each, totalling a 100-work show,” says Kunsthuis Gallery curator Cecile Creemers.

My contribution, Landfall I is part of an experimental series of freeform prints, loosely based on aerial views of imagined islands. The basic printing plate shapes were laser cut from birch plywood.  Various acrylic gels and pastes were then smeared and pushed around, and plastic tools used to make marks in the wet surfaces. On press, the individual plates can then be used in different combinations to produce an almost infinite number of images of unique texture and shape.

We’ll be going along to the opening and Private View tomorrow evening. There will even be a ‘red carpet’ reception for the artists and guests – can’t wait!
