This plate and print is one of my all-time favourites, partly because it is the result of an anomaly or ‘happy accident’. Mount board was covered in glue and sprinkled with carborundum powder. After drying, I dripped PVA glue and varnish over the powder. I think that I didn’t wait long enough for the surface to dry before applying shellac varnish, as the varnish seeped into the lower lying areas of the plate, producing very interesting marks. There is a sense of dynamism, motion and perhaps electricity in the final print as a result of these anomalies.
