    Print: Dying Sun

    Dying Sun

Suns and moons have been a bit of an obsession for me over many years. I suppose it’s the completeness of the circle or fear which is an interesting and attractive shape for many people. Here though, I wanted to do something different with the basic shape, so I cut circles out of Birch plywood using a laser cutter, before setting to work with a pair of thin nosed pliers, nibbling away at the outer edges of the plywood circle, with the intention of creating a shape that would remind me of a dying sun. After the basic shape was made, I used various acrylic gels and cotton threads to add texture to the surface of the plate. The resulting print had a three dimensional quality, typical of many of my collagraphs.
