Whilst teaching graphic design at the University of Lincoln, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to use the extensive workshop facilities. I wanted to create a series of plates in the shape of a crescent moon. I knew I would not be able to cut them accurately by hand, so I used a laser cutter to produce the shapes that would form the basis of the individual plates. I used all kinds of materials as surface treatments for the moons; marks made in acrylic gels poured carborundum and varnish mixtures, PVA glue etc. The various textures applied to the plates produced a wide variety of marks in the paper of the final prints.
