I’ve been\u00a0thinking about some ideas for related activities\u00a0during the exhibition. One of those might involve\u00a0me\u00a0presenting\u00a0a ‘live’ print session at\u00a0The Ropewalk<\/a>.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0To do this, I thought I would prepare some simple printing plates, in shapes that people will identify with. So, I’ve come up with these Crescent Moons.<\/p>\n

Making the basic shape of a printing plate in this way is a first for me. Until now, I have made every plate\u00a0entirely by hand. Here, the shapes were cut out using a laser printer in the Maker Lab<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>in the School of Architecture and Design at the University of Lincoln. I had been a little nervous about making the plates in this way, thinking that they might\u00a0be less ‘authentic’. However, I was soon reassured when I thought it through.\u00a0I’ll be sealing them with varnish in the usual way before creating different textures and patterns on each one, using a variety of materials. <\/span><\/p>\n

During the show, I’m hoping that we can invite people to the\u00a0Print Studio, ink one of the plates in their presence and make a print ‘direct from the artist’ for them to take away.\u00a0In this way, I would like to encourage people to see\u00a0printmaking in action,\u00a0make the connection between plate and print and therefore be informed on how the works in the exhibition were created.<\/span><\/p>\n
