    Metallics: Untitled I

    Untitled I

This was one of a series of 10 cm plates covered with thick coatings of acrylic gels. Whilst the gels were still wet, I made holes and other marks by pressing into and lifting coarse fabrics from the surface. As a final touch, just before printing, I placed faux metal leaf onto the inked plate, with glue on the side facing upwards. This technique is called chine collé – literally glueing paper to paper through the printing process. You can see how integrated the metal leaf has become because it has been printed on top of with the same colours as the surrounding areas.
